Shechter’s practice develops through a direct encounter with natural materials and processes in liminal states found in nature and its elemental components- water, charcoal, earth, and pigments.

The artist examines how matter carries a singular imprint, traces of time, memory, and human movement. Through drawing, sculpture, and the collection of materials from charged sites, Shechter’s practice investigates liminal states, spaces frozen in time, passages between defined forms and amorphous conditions, between grasping and dissolution. Through the encounter with the body, Shechter seeks to reveal hidden images and to allow both the material and the artist a space of transformation.
