ABOUT
אודות
The exhibition "Traders and Soothsayers" deals with prophecy. It turns its gaze to the prophet himself, the figure often chosen, sometimes against their will, to deliver the message as a bridge between the spiritual and the material worlds, through the image of the Grey Sisters in Greek mythology. The three sisters share a single eye; Perseus manages to steal it and uses it to uncover the secret of Medusa. Just as one cannot look directly at Medusa, whose gaze turns those who stare at her into stone, the exhibition argues that reality or truth cannot be seen directly either. The question of vision, blindness, and the empty space behind the eye drives the collaboration between the artists (the sisters), drawing a parallel to the infinite and empty universe from which prophecies are sent to us. The fearful gaze upon Medusa’s face is a metaphor for one who has seen the prophecy. The question of whether the prophecy has been fulfilled remains unanswered, and the gallery space will become a laboratory in which this question will be examined.
