ABOUT
אודות
Using various images of groups, be it sportsmen, people involved in a common ritual and even cranes, Dina Levy, in her solo exhibition, raises questions about the place of the individual in the group and his/her apprehension about a foreboding event yet to occur; an event that will change everything.
These two subjects, evident in all of Dina Levy’s works, are embedded in the DNA of Israeli society in which she grew up. A society in trauma carrying a collective memory of never-ending traumatic events, feeding the anxiety and sustaining the constant sense of threat. These feelings reinforce the need for group support and lead to group cohesion.
Dina Levy expresses the sense of anxiety with large spots of bright and bold colors on multiple layers, and with a bulimic path that takes the viewer from overload to transparency. At first impression the works are eye-pleasing, but underneath one can detect the fear of the unknown.
The works in the exhibition include site specific installations of large paintings on canvases and transparent sheets, using mixed media placed next to video and sound works.
