ABOUT

אודות

The small oil paintings emerge from the black paper – as if rising from darkness, from the depths of consciousness. The black serves as the background for the video work projected on the wall. It is also the black of the night, of oblivion, of rock culture, and of the club walls where the artist danced in her youth.

From the darkness, the images flicker, clinging to the paper for a moment before threatening to disappear into the surrounding void. Scenes of childhood and adulthood—nightmares, dreams, or perhaps memories—bear witness to a trauma that weighs upon the body.

Alongside the paintings, Echtenberg presents her first video work. In the piece, she dances to the sound of unheard alternative rock music. In the background, her mother's voice sings her a familiar French children's song. The tune is light and comforting, yet the dance is violent and explosive, as if the marionette mentioned in the song is struggling to break free from the forces controlling it, to escape its demons.
