Artwork. Does it reveal an inner truth about its creator or merely a White Lie?

When a piece of art is released from the artist's control into the public domain, it becomes subject to interpretation and criticism, which naturally evokes fear and awe in its creator.

Through a series of sculptural and drawn works, Michal Fromer and Noa Spector attempt to examine this issue. They seek to impose order on the materials they work with: Fromer uses polystyrene, glue, and paint, while Spector uses canvas, acrylic, charcoal, ink, varnish, and thread. Imposing order serves as a metaphor for the effort to tailor their artwork to the tastes of buyers and collectors, and  their desire to fit in with and please their surrounding society.

Fromer aims to impose order on small pieces of polystyrene that are glued together to create compositions and readymade works. In contrast, Spector strives to compress acrylic paint onto stitched canvas sheets, thus presenting a tidy façade to the internal storm and unrest.

The exhibition White Lie shines light on the differing perspectives of both the viewer and the artists, while also exposing the underlying tension between the artist, artwork, and viewer. This theme is amplified through the peepholes integrated into the exhibition space, allowing visitors to observe the works from various vantage points.
