Irit Abramovich’s solo exhibition explores the significance of point of view and its implications for the perception of reality. By shifting the gaze from eye level to aerial space, Irit Abramovich examines questions of stability, wandering, and migration.
At the core of the exhibition lies the gap between the human search for a “fixed structure” — home and secure ground — and, in contrast, the movement of birds, and swifts in particular, which spend most of their lives in the air, hunting, eating, and sleeping in flight. The tension present in the works between the vertical perspective, detached from any hold on the ground, and the search for an anchor permeates the gallery space. Abramovich challenges conventional modes of display and seeks to unsettle the viewer’s sense of orientation. Through the disruption of spatial orientation, visitors become active participants in an experience of suspension, borderlessness, and perhaps also the search for boundaries.
