The duo exhibition "Mechanical Doll" explores the struggle against accepting the body as a sole envelope that defines the "self," and touches on the complexity of fragmented and detached identity within a social environment built on binary distinctions. The photographs by Shimin and Banaim deal with processes of transformation and change as reflected in the lives of two women: one, an Iranian woman who immigrated to Israel and became religiously observant, and the other, a woman undergoing gender transition.
