Lining, a new duo exhibition by painter Yael Hovav and fashion designer Assaf Katz, at the Benjamin Gallery (curated by Hagai Ulrich), features paintings, sculptures, clothing,  and fashion shows.
The exhibition, which explores human experiences such as kinship, humor, irony, nonverbal communication, emotional identification, and curiosity about the present, inquires about dressing as a rite of passage that is reorganized daily. In life-size fabric and wood sculptures, as well as oil paintings that depict complex human situations, clothing itself changes locations, shapes, and meanings. The figures and clothes, the stains and seams in the exhibition and the many details in the painting and sculpture, refer to each other, imitate each other, alternate, and reappear in surprising places - actions that seek to express a dimension of empathy - the abstract, objective ability to step into the shoes of another by identifying oneself with him or her. This is the lining of the exhibition.
