ABOUT

The epic poem The Knight in the Panther’s Skin, written by Shota Rustaveli in the 12th century, inspired the artists to embark on a developing research process. This is the second station in their journey, following the first station which was exhibited at the Cube Gallery. As the two artists delved deeper into the poem, they discovered its fascinating, bold, secular, and feminist aspects. The epic contains a collection of small stories that build characters of wise and humane female rulers, possessing spiritual beauty and wholeness.

The poem has a distinct political dimension and a socialist approach—the poem’s heroes establish an internal order and remove from the land “all injustice and denial of rights”—thus realizing the ideals of liberty and equality. This contemporary reading led to a process in which the artists spun a fictional continuation of the story and created visual evidence for it in the form of objects and video clips functioning as archaeological findings.

Through disassembly, reassembly, removal, and reinterpretation, they construct a shared imaginary space from which they extract aesthetic values to create a parallel universe. The gallery space comes to life, animated with digital tools—video projections that trace tempera paintings and transform the gallery walls into a tangible arena of action.

Into this world, the violence and horror of October 7th intruded—a reality that cannot be ignored or created around without its presence penetrating even the most protected spaces. As the works tightened towards the exhibition, they acquired an additional layer. This layer seeks to touch upon the pure love that accompanies the poem—a love that transcends the material world and everyday perception.
