ABOUT

The biblical verse "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness" (Genesis 1:26) is the starting point for this exhibition that explores the connection between God and man, and between the creator and his creation. Does the artist imprint himself on the work, or does the work imprint itself on the artist?
The exhibition "In Our Image" centers on the essential paradox of human existence, through a deliberate choice of ephemeral and perishable materials. Melting wax, drying clay, bursting soap bubbles, hardening dough, and splitting wood - all of these serve the artists as a living metaphor for the fleeting nature of man. In sharp contrast to stable materials like marble and bronze, which represent the human aspiration for eternity, organic and temporal materials echo our essence as a "passing shadow in the world." The gap between the sublime creation, which seeks to transcend time, and the temporary and perishable materiality, embodies the constant tension in our existence as humans. We, who were created in the image of God produce instruments of war that damage and dismantle the fragile human body.
"In Our Image" is an exhibition that brings together five artists who draw inspiration from ancient practices, rituals and ceremonies and integrate their image and body into their creative process. Man is created in the image of God and at the same time from dust, the abstract idea takes shape and body in material. The works in the exhibition examine the meaning of our being created "in their image", and the way in which we, as creators, imprint "our image" in our work.
