Following the October 7 attacks on Israel, Binyamin Gallery is hosting evacuated works from the Gvul (Border) Gallery at Kibbutz Hanita. The exhibition, "Deceptive Silence," draws a connection between the artists Mor Rimer, an engraver and painter, and Tal Gaash, a sound artist, who seek to create a dialogue on senses in space. The artists with curator, Rita Kats examine the empty settlement through images and sound.
"Heartbeat Check for an Evacuated Kibbutz," Tal Gaash's work, presents an empty dining room cart in the center of the exhibition. From within it emerge various rhythms that were recorded throughout the kibbutz and interpreted by the artist. The sounds are audible in the gallery space; however, visitors can choose to explore the exhibition in quiet by wearing noise-canceling headphones. Surrounding the cart are small-format black-and-white etchings and a large painting by Rimer that show pieces of a surreal and empty kibbutz landscape. Rimer’s work resembles fragments of a dream that are displayed on the walls in rhythm with the sound.
