ABOUT

אודות

In the exhibition Blockage, the artworks stem from impulses to understand and express emotional states, traumas, pain, pressure, and oppressive memories—through various media: painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking, embroidery, treated ready-mades, and video art.

The hands-on engagement of contemporary women artists with personal crises and inner blockages highlights an inherent paradox within the creative process itself: the tension between blockage and creativity. At the core of this paradox lies the shift from doubt, paralysis, and fear—to hope, stimulation, and challenge.

Each artist’s interpretive approach to the transition—from reflecting on blockages or confronting them, to creating a completed artwork—forms the basis of the curatorial decisions that shaped the exhibition.

Attempting to connect the contradictory terms blockage and creativity is particularly challenging; just as complex is the choice to present, in one shared space, works rooted in intricate personal experiences of women from diverse backgrounds and ages, who chose to face those experiences with striking boldness.

The viewing experience of this large group exhibition, along with the viewer’s interpretation and synthesis, enables broad insights—not only poetic or artistic in nature, but also deeply human, psychological, gendered, and social.
