ABOUT
אודות
The exhibition ALTERNATING CURRENTS examines the relations between artist, artwork and audience, as demonstrated in interactive artworks which are based on contemporary technologies such as machine learning algorithms, motion sensors and Net Art.
The physical phenomenon known as "alternating current" describes an electric current which periodically reverses its direction.
Like in the current, bi-directional polarities constitute the foundation of the works in this exhibition. These artworks are characterized by two main components: all utilise or refer to contemporary technology, and all are interactive, requiring various degrees of viewer participation in order to exist. These are works that seek to examine the triangular relationship between artist-artwork-viewer, and rely on technological advances in order to enhance the participatory experience in ways that were not possible 30 or 40 years ago.
