I photograph people. In my work, I explore boundaries, question my place in the world, and examine the connections between private and public spaces, between intimacy and exposure.
On the street, I document “ordinary” people—strangers who are often unaware of the camera. Despite the direct nature of my photography, the subjects often appear staged, larger than life, revealing what the eye alone cannot see. At times, I turn the lens on myself, becoming the subject, while passing strangers serve as extras in the scenes I construct.
The camera serves as a gateway into private spaces, where encounters become opportunities for intimate dialogues. These moments allow me to break down the “pose” in front of the camera and challenge the inherent power dynamics between photographer and subject.
In my video works, these intimate dialogues take center stage. They raise questions about masculinity and femininity, the boundaries of what is permitted and forbidden, and issues of control and exploitation. I explore mutual vulnerability, curiosity, and fear, as well as the shifting power dynamics between man and woman, photographer and subject. The result can provoke discomfort or embarrassment in viewers, who seemingly find themselves peering into a private interaction not meant for their eyes.
As an integral part of my exploration of power relations, every woman appearing in my video works has the absolute right to veto the use of the final footage after reviewing it.
I have been a member of Binyamin Gallery since 2018
